Dr. Kevin Smith, O.D. is a therapeutic Optometrist who specializes in geriatric eye care.

He frequently takes that experience with him when he offers on-site Mobile Care Services at:

• assisted living facilities
• independent living facilities
• skilled nursing facilities
• home health care facilities
• group homes
• individual homes

Through Mobile Care Services, Infinity Eye Care Center is able to provide full eye care examinations on-site for patients that find it difficult to make it to our location. Dr. Smith is currently the only eye doctor performing on-site services and house calls in the Tampa area.

About Mobile Examinations 

All exams are conducted with handheld portable equipment. Vision is checked and a new prescription for glasses can be prescribed. Eye health is checked for allergies, dry eyes, infections, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and systemic conditions that affect the eye. Muscle function is monitored. Pupils and gross visual fields are done to check neurological function.

If there is an abnormal finding during testing, a referral to a specialist can be made by Dr. Smith.

Mobile Procedures

We are able to perform the following procedures during a mobile visit:

• Visual Acuity Testing: determines the clarity of your vision.
• Refractions: determines the prescription for eyeglasses.
• Pupil Testing: can check the basic neurological function between the eyes and brain
• Visual Fields: determines the amount of peripheral vision present.
• Perkins Tonometry: measures the pressure inside the eye for glaucoma.
• Slit Lamp Exam: hand-held microscope to check for cataracts, allergies, and dry eyes.
• Pan Optic Ophthalmoscope: allows the doctor to examine the retina for macular degeneration

Optometrists are considered the primary care doctors of the eyes and are licensed to diagnose and treat many eye conditions. Routine exams can also reveal many systemic conditions like: hypertension, diabetes, HIV, lupus, strokes, Lyme disease, cancer and many others.
